| Sandra had been practicing her scrimshaw art for
many years. We found it difficult at times to get ivory polished
for her to work on when we were on the road so much. During one
of these dry spells Sandra was suffering from scrimshaw withdrawal.
It had been some time since she had new material to work on. Between shows I forced her to accompany me to a wood workers store. I just wanted to see what they had there. Sandra's attention was caught almost immediately by a book on Pyrography. She bought the book and read more on this subject. She decided this was similar to scrimshaw and she wanted to try it. This became the art form that would fill in the gaps of her scrimshaw work. Her work is created with a high tech version of the woodburning set that many children played with. The pieces are unique, hand created art. Though a subject may be repeated in the future, no two will ever be exactly alike. Sandra can create a custom piece from your photo or pattern. Let us know what you would like and we'll try to please you. To some people it's just scorched pieces or wood and to others it's beautiful art. Once again, you get to be the judge ! |
